康樂棋

康樂棋Last night I dreamt about playing this classic Chinese game. I have no idea of what it’s called in English. Anyhow, it’s sort of a combination of snooker/pool and Chinese chess. It comes with a table (with 3 legs), 32 chess pieces, a cue piece and 2 cues. Basically each player takes 16 chess pieces and line them up flushed to his/her side of the table, and uses the cue to hit the cue piece and to knock the opponent’s pieces into the hole (or pocket in pool’s term). Rules are rather similar to pool, I wonder who actually invented it.

I played 康樂棋 so much when I was growing up and it definitely helped to get my anger out: when I poke that cue hard into the cue piece, the bang noise they make is just remarkable.
