osx leopard
One more day to go. It’s been almost 6 years since the launch of OSX. Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther and Tiger, and now comes Leopard. I remember when I got the Beta in the mail I was like, oh my God, this thing is insane. But of course, now we have all become so used to it and don’t think twice about the interface. I’ll probably try to get it tomorrow, and install it on my iMac ASAP, as you know me, I can’t wait for this stuff. And the next one in the family will probably be “Lion,” don’t you think?

I met Sarah Jones!

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Sarah JonesLast Friday I got to meet Tony-award winning stage actress Sarah Jones. She gave a special performance at the UN as a call to action to stop violence against children.

Before the performance, I got to see and meet with her at the UNICEF. I spoke with her briefly and of course, I told her I was a big fan of hers. She was just so cool and nice. I was so excited to meet her as I admired her talent and work so much.

I saw her Bridge and Tunnel show before it went to Broadway, she was playing multiple characters in the show, speaking out on different issues.

My favorite Japanese food

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Here are my favorite items of Japanese food of all times:

Oyako don (親子丼)
Oyako don
It’s cooked chicken and eggs with onions and trefoil (三つ葉、mitsuba) over rice. It’s usually served in a bowl. It’s warm and savory, spicy with the addition of red chili powder. I think it’s the most comfortable and filling don ever. This is a recipe of oyako don.

Cold soba noodles (蕎麦)
zaru soba
There are so many different kinds of cold soba dishes, the most common kinds are zaru soba and ten zaru. When it comes with pieces of shredded seaweed (nori), it’s called zaru soba (笊蕎麦) and with the addition of tempura it becomes ten zaru. When eaten, cold soba is dipped into a bowl of tsuyu, which is a sauce made of dashi (出汁), sweetened soy sauce and mirin (味醂), with the addition of wasabi, scallions, and grated ginger.

Mochi (もち)
daifuku mochi
Honestly, any kind of mochi will do. But particular any kind of mochi with red bean paste (餡、an) in it is my number one choice. Such delicacies include Daifuku mochi (大福餅) and kusa mochi (草餅), which is sweet, chewy and yummy.

I generally love Japanese food, but these 3 are my staple items. How about sushi, sashimi or tempura? How about dorayaki? They are good, but none of them can compare to a daifuku mochi after a dish of zaru soba or a bowl of oyako don.

And in case you haven’t realized yet, they are all carbs.

The Golden Compass trailer

It looks like a lot of fun! Even though the official trailer of The Golden Compass tells me a lot more than I need to know about the story while I am still reading…

iPod touch is jail-broken!

Monday, October 15th, 2007

iPod touch jail brokenThanks to the 13-year-old jailbreaker and his partner, last night I successfully jail broke my iPod touch.

It was very easy and straight-forward. After using the TIFF exploit, iJailbreak successfully got in and installed the infamous “installer.app” application.

I then went onto install a few toys and utilities, as well as SSH. With SSH (plus a few Google searches), I uploaded the iPhone apps to the iPod via SFTP: Mail, Google Map and Weather, etc. And now my screen is full of icons and my iPod has definitely become a fun toy!

While playing with these fun apps, it definitely teased to think about getting an iPhone. No, but I will wait, at least until the 2nd generation comes out.

The Golden Compass

The Golden Compass
As recommended by Rey, I have started reading the first part, The Golden Compass, of the trilogy, His Dark Materials. I bought the 3-in-1 version so that I can read the 3 volumes with one book. The movie is coming out this coming holiday season.

I am already imagining Danial Craig as Lord Asriel and Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter while reading. Let’s see how the movie goes when it comes out.

Yeah, moved.

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

So finally, after weeks of frustration and stress, we moved. We moved to Queens. Frankly, we will have to adjust. We have been living in Brooklyn for such a long time that we are experiencing a little bit of culture shock, even though it’s still New York City!

Boxes are everywhere in the apartment, as I simply have no energy and time to do a lot of unpacking. I am just so tired. The stress that this move has induced on me simply made me sick, literally. I am feeling sick.

However, we like the new apartment very much. It has great light, 3-side exposure, great view and of course, a huge amount of space. I love the kitchen, which has so much cabinet space to put things in. It’s truly a great apartment, and we are glad and relieved.

On a side note, I am looking forward to switch to green power for the apartment. There are so many green power providers to choose from, and I am in a daze. If you know anything about choose a green power provider, please let me know!!!
